In the middle of this piece about Newcastle United’s current woes, there’s an interesting insight into how Roy Hodgson turned things around at Fulham from Aaron Hughes.

When the manager took over last January, we were in the bottom three, but we didn’t panic. We went about our business.

He told us the way we were going to do it, and if we were going to stay up, then great, but we were going to do it right. He’s been a massive influence.

We worked on shape and being organised and, thankfully, the results went our way. We’ve built on what we did last year and we’ve been pretty consistent. There are a few games where we didn’t do well, but overall we’ve always had a pretty good effort.
