Fulham are believed to be close to concluding a deal to bring Brentford goalkeeper David Button to Craven Cottage.
Slavisa Jokanovic has made the signing of a new goalkeeper a high priority since the departure of Andy Lonergan to Wolves last month and the head coach is also keen to see the new arrival challenge academy graduate Marcus Bettinelli for the number one jersey. The Whites have already seen an initial approach for Button rebuffed by Brentford, with the Bees putting a £2m asking price on the 27 year-old stopper.
A structured deal is now understood to be on the table between the two local rivals, with Fulham agreeing a fee believed to be around £1m, which could rise to £2m if a number of clauses – including promotion to the Premier League – are met during the goalkeeper’s time at the Cottage. Button, who has twelve months to run on his current deal at Griffin Park, has made 141 appearances for the Bees since signing from Charlton in 2013 but has now slipped behind Dan Bentley in Dean Smith’s pecking order.
Button began his career with as a highly-rated youngster at Tottenham Hotspur and was capped at every England youth level from under-16 to under-20. He won the Football League Trophy with Luton Town in 2009 and earned promotion from League One with Brentford in 2013-2014.
