Jamie O’Hara is having a medical ahead of a proposed move to Fulham, according to a report on the Daily Mirror website this morning.
The former Tottenham midfielder has been training with the club at Motspur Park after being released by Blackpool at the end of last season and appears to have done enough to convince Kit Symons that he is worth a permanent deal. The 28 year-old is available on a free transfer and could form part of Fulham’s new-look midfield alongside new signings Tom Cairney and Ben Pringle.
Having come through the youth ranks at Tottenham, O’Hara made his senior debut as a substitute against Portsmouth under Juande Ramos in December 2007 and made the winning goal. He was more of a peripheral figure under Harry Redknapp, although he did turn the direction of a League Cup semi-final in Spurs’ favour when he came off the bench against Burnley, scoring one and creating another in a 4-1 victory. He helped Portsmouth to the FA Cup final whilst on loan at Fratton Park in 2010, but his career nose-dived after a £5m move to Wolves in 2011.
He was unable to starve off two successive relegations with the Midlands club and was sent off for violent conduct in a defeat by Huddersfield, before falling foul of the Wolves fans by sarcastically clapping them after he had been jeered by the home fans during the final game of the season. O’Hara was publicly put up for sale by manager Kenny Jackett – and despite a brief return to the first-team set-up – released from his contract last August.
The midfielder spent last season with Blackpool, scoring twice in 27 appearances, and was a firm favourite with the club’s fans during a disastrous side for the Tangerines. O’Hara turned down a new two-year deal with Blackpool and the Dartford-born midfielder now looks set to return to the capital with Fulham. Should he pass the club’s medical, the former England under-21 international could join up with his new team-mates at their training camp in Portugal this week.
