Stephen Kelly says that the Boxing Day draw at Chelsea was a reward for Fulham’s fans – and the full-back hopes to continue the good form at Norwich on New Year’s Eve.
The Irish international returned to the side at Stamford Bridge and was delighted with Fulham’s defending in the wake of the thrashing by Manchester United in their previous game.
We were very happy on Monday because we needed to give a good result to the fans. To go to Stamford Bridge is never easy but to come away with a draw is a great boost and shows us what we’re capable of.
I thought we got forward well and defended well against Chelsea. We were resilient and at times we showed glimpses of really good attacking football. The manager set up the team that put the onus on them rather than us sitting back.
We caused Chelsea a lot of problems and that’s what the intent was and it worked out well. Everybody was very happy with the performance and hopefully we can build on that when we go to Norwich on Saturday.
They’re [Norwich] a very good side and their home record this year has been fantastic, especially against the teams in and around them in the League. If we can put in the same level of performance we did at Chelsea then there’s no reason why we can’t go there and get a result, but we know what they’re capable of, so we need to be resilient.
Kelly wants Fulham to finish 2011 in the top half of the table, something that can be achieved with a win at Carrow Road on Saturday.
If we were to end 2011 back in the top ten that would be a great position to be in and it kind of sets you up for the rest of the season. That’s where we want to be at the end of the season and we’re a team that is capable of that.
