Matthew Briggs is returning early from his loan spell at Peterborough after the Championship club deemed him surplus to requirements.

Posh manager Darren Ferguson has released the England under-21 defender prior to what would have been the last game of his month-long loan, against Blackpool on Saturday, and Briggs has returned to Fulham. The left back, still very much second choice to John Arne Riise in Martin Jol’s mind despite some impressive early-season displays, made five appearances whilst at London Road. Reports have suggested that Briggs could head out on loan again before the end of the emergency loan window.
