Olakigbe scores for England U18s

Fulham winger Michael Olakigbe scored as England’s under 18s finished the Pinatar Tournament with a 2-0 win over Portugal in Spain last night.

Olakigbe added the crucial second on the counter attack with twelve minutes left, coolly slotting between the near post and a stranded goalkeeper having been played in by Sam Mather. Fulham full back Harvey Araujo played the first 45 minutes at left back before being substituted.

Araujo and Olakigbe earn England U18s call ups

Fulham pair Harvey Araujo and Michael Olakigbe have been named in the England under 18 squad for the forthcoming Pinatar tournament in Spain.

Defender Araujo made his under 18 international debut as a substitute against Norway in October before making a first start at this level against Russia four days later. Winger Michael Olakigbe was also handed his first appearances for the England under 18s during that same camp by new coach Ryan Garry – scoring and adding an assist in the 3-0 win over the Russians.

Garry has named a 24-man squad for the friendly tournament which sees England take on Holland on 11 November, Belgium on 13 November and Portugal on 15 November.

Olakigbe opens account for England under 18s

Fulham winger Michael Olakigbe scored his first goal for England’s under 18s as Ryan Garry’s side rounded off a successful tour of Spain with a 3-0 over Russia in Marbella this afternoon.

Olakigbe added England’s second goal after Sonny Perkins had put the young Lions ahead midway through the first half. The teenager winger worked hard ten minutes later to close down a Russian defender and strip him of possession before holding off another tackler and slotting an assured finish past Daniil Khudiakov.

Olakigbe turned provider in the second period, producing a lovely bit of skill to beat his man down the left flank and put in a precise cross for Lewis Hall to make it three. Olakigbe’s Fulham team-mate Harvey Araujo made his first start at this level, playing 58 minutes at left back.

Olakigbe at the double as U18s beat Blues

A brace from Michael Olakigbe ensured Fulham under 18s climbed to the top of the Premier U18 League Division 1 South with a comfortable win at Birmingham City this afternoon.

The England youth international continued his superb goalscoring start to the season by grabbing a match settling double after Jaylan Wildbore’s close-range finish had put the young Whites ahead. New under 18s coach Ali Melloul enjoyed a excellent start to his tenure after taking over from Steve Wigley, with the visitors dominating the opening stages of a very watchable encounter.

Fulham’s clearest chances initially came from set players with Wildbore and Harvey Araujo heading wide from corners. George Okkas then struck a post with a powerful free-kick before Wildbore prodded the away side in front. Alfie Brooks did brilliantly to deny Luke Harris after the striker had latched onto a floated cross from Devan Tanton, but Wildbore was on hand to sidefoot home from eight yards.

The Whites continued to play on the front foot, although their second goal owed much to a mix-up at the back. Brooks tried to play a short ball out of defence having received a backpass but Olakigbe, who had led the Fulham press, nipped in to seize possession and roll the simplest of finishes into an empty net. That strike effectively killed the contest – although Fulham were eager to add further goals in the second half.

Wildbore and Imani Lanquedoc spurned good chances to extend Fulham’s lead, with Brooks making a fine save from the latter, before Olakigbe took matters into his own hands to round off the scoring with a sensational strike. He collected a pass from Tyler Caton and spun sharply twenty five yards from goal before firing an unstoppable finish into the top corner. Fulham are now a point clear of Arsenal and Crystal Palace at the top of the table and return to league action when Chelsea visit Motspur Park on October 23rd.

Araujo earns first England under 18s call up

Fulham defender Harvey Araujo has won a call up to the England under 18 squad for the first time.

The left back has been named alongside Fulham team-mate Michael Olakgibe in new head coach Ryan Garry’s party for two games in Marbella against Norway and Russia. Araujo, who made fourteen appearances for Fulham’s under 18s last season as Steve Wigley’s side retained their southern division title, signed his first professional deal at Craven Cottage earlier this summer.

The teenage defender, who can also play at centre back, has made five appearances for Fulham’s under 18s this term. Olakigbe, who made his international debut at this age group as a substitute against Wales last month, has scored three goals and made two more in five club games so far this season.
