The ipaper’s Kat Lucas and Mark Douglas report that Tottenham Hotspur are ‘seriously considering’ Fulham head coach Marco Silva as a candidate to replace the sacked Ange Postecoglou.
Their story also quotes Spurs sources suggesting that the appointment of Brentford boss Thomas Frankly, widely regarded as the frontrunner to succeed the Australian at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, is ‘no done deal’. Both candidates would require a hefty payment from Tottenham to their current employers. Frank had a £10m release clause written in to the new deal he signed with Brentford in 2022, whilst Silva’s release clause is believed to be in the region of £6m. Paying off Postecoglou is reported to have cost Tottenham around £4m.
Lucas and Douglas also disclose that Fulham remain in talks with Silva over extending his current contract at Craven Cottage, which has a year left. They state that ‘no agreement has been reached’ yet. The Portuguese head coach, who rejected an another approach from Saudi Arabia in the final week of the Premier League season, has also interested Serie A side Juventus of late – but insisted he would be managing Fulham next season following their final day defeat to Manchester City.
Lets hope it is no true especially as he has recently declared his allegiance to Fulham. He would be a great loss and would probably lead to other players leaving. Interesting to learn why he has not signed a new contract with us
I really hope this is not true if he does go the Khans would partly to blame for not backing him in past why is it that it’s Fulham that always lose their manager
No backing from the khans and when they do release funds it’s always at the end of transfer window giving no time to settle players in before season k.o
If he goes I hope we get Ange.
What the hell do we want Angie for! He’s taken a team of star players and led them to 17th in the league
I could understand Juve but not Spurs. Its like Man U, a manager’s graveyard.
I can’t recall a Spurs manager whose stock was higher when they’ve left the Lane than when they joined. Only Poch, and they sacked him.
Still, it’s up to Marco. Bigger budget, CL football (until December at least). Must be tempting.
I’d be sorry to see him go. He’s become Fulham. Knows our limitations but knows there’s a way of unlocking more and is clearly passionate about his job.
But it would be a financially good move for him, so can’t begrudge him that if he takes it. It would be gutting to see him leave for another Prem club.
Sadly, I think he’d be a good fit at Spurs.
I hope it’s just a Summer clickbait rumour.
If Marco goes let’s have Ange.
Just heard on Sky Sports News that Spurs have asked permission to talk to the Brentford manager Thomas Frank who it’s seems is interested in talking to them let’s hope he does so Marco can get on with taking Fulham to the next step
Impossible to judge the veracity of these stories. Spurs are motivated to put them about to help negotiate down the cost of their new manager. Silva is motivated to put them about to help negotiate up his new deal with Fulham. Who knows what is going on.
There is no smoke without fire. FFC or the Khans have no said if they have given permission for Spurs to talk to Silva who has not added any a while anything since he said he would be staying at FFC. I trust e will be true to his word. I thought Thomas Frank was going but now not so sure. It needs to sorted asap as a new manager may have different ideas who he would want to sign hopefully early rather than later in the transfer window
I hope Marco stays. Couldn’t blame him for considering Spurs, who don’t have the soul of Fulham but are a bigger club, with a world class stadium and will play in the Champions League next season. It will be a hard blow for Fulham but the club will go on. COYW!
Silva has proved to be good manager at Fulham. His shrewd dealings in the transfer market have kept Fulham comfortably in the Premier league. Nobody is really aware of his relationship with the board so we cannot definitely know how happy he is with his present situation. On the other hand Daniel Levy has proven to be a tricky customer, Tottenham has been the graveyard for a couple of aspiring managers of late, all of Silva’s present reputation could be destroyed very quickly. I am sure Marco remembers his Everton tenure all too well. Look before you leap Marco thats all I will say.
spurs is a great club, and advertise their wares so very well. get to the final of the champions league and get fire, WIN a Euro trophy and get sacked
Word on the street is Frank to get spurs job. Ideally suited they could not have done better.
