There’s a lovely little piece in this morning’s City AM featuring Udo Onwere.

Fulham fans of a certain vintage will remember Hammersmith-born Udo coming through the club’s youth system to make 103 appearances for the Whites between 1990 and 1993, scoring seven goals. Onwere’s post-Fulham career took him to Lincoln City, Dover Athletic, Blackpool, Barnet, Aylesbury United, Hayes and Maidenhead United before he qualified as a lawyer in 2000.

City AM’s Eyes on the Law column profiles Onwere, who is now a partner at Bray & Krais and leads their sports practice. He discusses the importance of many issues in the news at present and the predominance of the Premier League, where his old club are making themselves feel at home again under Marco Silva.

There are just so many issues. If you actually sit down and think about the different things that are going on just within professional football itself, you would not have enough hours in a day to be able to really get a grip. Whether that be bringing in the Football Governance Bill, dealing with the licensing of agents, or threats to ban football clubs, there’s so many different aspects to it, and it’s just trying to keep on top of that which is the challenge.

The Premier League is having to grapple with this new commercial landscape, but have to constantly review their rules to make sure that there is equality within the league…which makes it such compelling viewing. But at the same time, you’ve got all of this sort of money coming in which makes the League so attractive because you can attract the very best talent around the world.”
