Joao Palhinha has reiterated his pleasure at his progress in the Premier League and says he wants to ‘keep growing’ with Fulham.

The defensive midfielder, who has had an incredible impact since moving to Craven Cottage from Sporting Club de Portugal for an initial fee of £17.2m last summer, is currently preparing for the start of Portugal’s European Championship qualifying campaign against Liechtenstein at his old home grown on Thursday night. Palhinha, who leads the top flight in terms of successful tackles, is hoping to force his way into new manager Roberto Martinez’s starting line-up having spent most of the World Cup as a substitute.

He told Sport TV:

“I hope to do my job. Not only in the midfield, but in attack and defence, we have a lot of very good players and that spreads the quality of our football well. I hope to be a good headache for the coach.”

Palhinha also underlined his commitment to building on a fine first few months at Fulham.

“I want to continue to grow as a player at Fulham and I always dream of being part of the national team.”
