Aleksandar Mitrovic says Marco Silva is the reason why Fulham are flying in the Premier League as he prepares for a return to starting line-up at St. James’ Park this afternoon.

The Serbian striker is set for an emotional reunion with Newcastle United this afternoon and – in an insightful interview with the Athletic’s Danny Taylor – he lavished praise on Silva, who has rejuvenated Fulham’s number nine after he was ostracised by Scott Parker.

“The best thing that happened was the new manager arriving. He has changed our way of thinking. He has brought something new, something we missed before, and that’s the reason we look so much better than in previous years.

It’s because of him that this year we feel like we belong in the Premier League. It’s the mentality he has brought. He really believes something positive is happening. No matter who the opposition are, we try to be positive. We never adapt to anyone. And, with this new attitude, I can remember only one game when we didn’t challenge our opponents and we were not in the game until the last minute. I love working with him every day. Every session with him is really enjoyable. I believe you can see it on the pitch.”
