Former Fulham midfielder Pajitim Kasami has been reminiscing about his wondergoal at Crystal Palace in Sky Sports’ ‘My Greatest Goal’ series.

The Swiss international said of his superb strike at Selhurst Park in October 2013:

“We started the game okay. The coach Martin Jol told me all the time that I should run into spaces. I saw Sascha [Riether] having the ball. He has a very good right foot, I recognised the space and you don’t think a lot in this moment, just go on instinct. When I saw the ball coming and I controlled it that well, that was the only solution. It was such an almost impossible angle, the only solution was for me to hit. I hit it so well that the goalkeeper was just looking at it.

When you go with your instinct, you go with your instinct. Maybe it can go out, maybe it can go in, maybe it can go perfect. My right foot is not so bad, I’ve scored some goals with my right foot. Everything was timing and everything was perfect. I’ve hit some nice volleys – but this was something else. The ball never fell on the floor and this makes it special.

I’m laughing because Martin was a Dutch manager. He immediately compared the goal to van Basten afterwards. I wasn’t even born when he scored that goal! The pace of the game has changed so much between then and now. I think in modern football everything is fast and physical that natural goals are becoming even harder because the defence and the goalkeepers are better.”
