Fulham defender Jerome Opoku has joined Velje Boldklub on a season long loan, the Danish club have confirmed this evening.

The 22 year-old, comfortable either at centre back or on the left side of defence, has enjoyed successful loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Plymouth Argyle in recent seasons and has decided to move to Denmark for further first team football. The Danish SuperLiga side have an option to make the deal permanent next summer should Opoku’s loan go well. He has been training with Velje this week as all parties were waiting for the paperwork to be finalised.

Opoku told Velje’s website: “I believe I can contribute here. The club has good facilities and a clear footballing philosophy. Both appeal to me greatly. I will let the coaching staff judge my potential, but I am ambitious. Vejle Boldklub is a club that has shown it can develop young players in a competitive environment and that was a big reason for choosing to come here. I look forward to pulling on the red shirt and fighting for a first team spot”.

Opoku could make his Velje debut in their home clash with Brondby on Sunday afternoon. His new club are also rumoured to be close to signing former Fulham forward Jean Pierre-Tiehi after he turned down a new contract at Craven Cottage earlier this summer.
