Kit Symons told reporters he was concerned for Jack Grimmer after the young Fulham defender was stretchered off following a horror tackle during the 1-0 win at Wycombe Wanderers tonight.

The Scottish youth international looked to have been caught around the Achilles by a dreadful challenge from Garry Thompson and was carried from the field after lengthy treatment by the Fulham medical staff. The club will now await the results of a scan to discover the full extent of the 21 year-old’s injury.

We’re still waiting to find out but it looked a nasty one. I don’t want to say too much yet but we’ve got our fingers crossed for him.

Symons was delighted that his side, which showed five changes from Saturday’s 1-1 draw in Cardiff, were able to keep a clean sheet against a combative Wycombe team.

Wycombe put us under a lot of pressure with balls into the box and we had to defend resolutely, which we did. I think the difference is that last year I’d be expecting something to fall for the opposition. Today we defended manfully – the back four were excellent and Marcus [Bettinelli] in goal was very good.

There were a few changes from Saturday, without weakening the team. We’ve got a fairly tight squad but a really good squad. If we can get one or two more acquisitions in, we’re going to be looking really good.
