Middlesbrough have agreed a deal to bring in Fulham defender Fernando Amorebieta on loan.
And the arrangement will see Boro fringe full-back James Husband going the other way.
Neither player will be eligible when the sides meet at Craven Cottage on April 25.
The Venezualan-born centre-back, 29, will join until the end of the season to beef up a once rigid rearguard that has looked thin of late.
And Husband, who will switch to the struggling Cottagers to get some game-time.
He arrived at Boro in the summer from Doncaster for £500,000 but has been kept out of the team by the impressive form of George Friend and has managed just six games all season and just four in the league.
Amorebieta will be well known to Aitor Karanka due to his Basque and Athletic Bilbao background.
