Fulham hope to pull off the £8.6m signing of Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo this week.
The Cottagers held talks with Roma’s sporting director Walter Sabatini in London on Tuesday and expect to complete the deal within days.
Valencia are also interested in Osvaldo, who has been capped eight times by Italy, while Southampton have also inquired about him.
But the 27-year-old is understood to favour a move to Fulham, who have already presented a proposal to his agent.
Osvaldo has a reputation as a hot-head and was kicked out of the Italy squad recently for criticising Roma coach Aurelio Andreazzoli.
Fulham boss Martin Jol has already brought in Fernando Amorebieta, Derek Boateng and Maarten Stekelenburg this summer.
But he is still hunting for new faces.
