Martin Jol will be continuing with Matthew Briggs at left back after dropping John Arne Riise following some poor performances for Fulham.

Briggs was brought into the Fulham side for the defeat by Swansea last week and Riise was left out of the squad entirely for the New Day’s victory at West Brom. The former Liverpool full back will not be available for this afternoon’s FA Cup third round tie against Blackpool after picking up a knock in training, but Jol moved to quash reports of a rift between the pair.

“Sometimes after a bad string of results you want to change something and give another player a chance, and that’s what we did with Briggs. Sometimes I tell players they are rested, like Aaron Hughes against Southampton, but sometimes I don’t. Now John’s injured and that’s another situation. Maybe Briggsy will do well in the next couple of games. It’s more of a selection thing. There was never a bust-up – John’s too nice for that.”
