Diomansy Kamara says he was delighted with his late strike at Bolton that secured Fulham’s away league win this season.
The Senegalese forward has recovered from a serious knee ligament injury but has endured a season of hard work and frustration as he sought to return to the first team picture. It was especially infuriating for Kamara as he had finally showed signs of the form that convinced Lawrie Sanchez to spend big money to bring him from West Brom two seasons ago.
Roy Hodgson has been careful not to over-exert Kamara on his return from injury and his well-taken goal, coming in his sixth substitute appearance since he made come off the bench against former club West Brom in February, put the gloss on a fine performance at the Reebok Stadium on Saturday.
Understandably, Kamara was delighted:
I was so happy to score because it has not been easy coming back and getting fit from such an injury. But I worked hard and the Fulham physios have been so good to me. Now I’m just enjoying being out there again.
Despite the win at the weekend, Kamara insists Fulham’s primary focus has to be amassing enough points for Premier League safety.
At the moment we must make sure we are safe. We cannot afford to think about anything else. The Bolton game was massive for us after losing against Hull and Blackburn.
It was out first away win but you have to remember our next two games are against Manchester United and Liverpool. If we had gone into those games after three defeats it might have been bad for us
