A few warm words of praise from Sky for our captain fantastic Danny Murphy.

There were a number of eye-catching performances this weekend but Murphy gets the nod after inspiring Fulham to a 2-0 victory over West Brom. The crafty midfielder was at his best from the start and almost scored when his excellent free-kick was tipped onto the post by Scott Carson early on. He was denied by the woodwork again before half-time but continued to pull the strings and Fulham were rewarded when Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson struck after the interval.

I wonder what the watching Fabio Capello made of Danny’s top performance today. It was certainly reminiscent of the displays that helped Murphy force his way into the England reckoning under Eriksson. It’s probably too late for him to repeat the feat but I’d be happy if he delivers these sort of performances for us week in, week out.

And if Fabio needs a striker, surely he could do worse than giving Andy Johnson some serious consideration. He seems to have hit a decent run of form and it’s good for us – with our historically low scoring rate since our return to the top flight – to have a real goalscorer up front.
