Fulham are close to completing a £6.5m deal to sign the West Ham striker Bobby Zamora, according to various reports this evening.

Roy Hodgson has identified the former Bristol Rovers forward as the ideal replacement for former Fulham captain Brian McBride, who left Craven Cottage to return to his native United States after the Whites avoided relegation on the final day of last season. Zamora is due to undergo a medical with Fulham tomorrow and personal terms are expected to be a formality as the former Tottenham forward is excited to gain an opportunity as a first-team regular in the top flight. Full back John Panstil is also expected to swap Upton Park for Fulham as part of the deal.

Zamora scored 83 goals in 136 appearances for Brighton and Hove Albion but struggled to replicate that fine goalscoring form in the top flight after signing for Tottenham. He headed to the Hammers as a makeweight in the deal that took Jermaine Defoe to White Hart Lane and scored 40 goals in 152 games at Upton Park.
