Lawrie Sanchez is lining up a shock move for Croatian international Igor Tudor as he plans a summer spending spree at Craven Cottage.

The new Fulham manager is desperate to overhaul his leaky defence and has identified the experienced Tudor, available on a free transfer after being released by Italian giants Juventus, as the man to build his new back four around. The Londoners are expected to be able to much what Tudor may demand in personal terms as they are keen to land the centre back, which could facilitate the long-expected departure of Zat Knight.

Sanchez is set to splash most of the £10m transfer kitty he has been handed by Mohamed Al-Fayed on players with experience of playing in England. He is ready to bring in two of the stars of his Northern Ireland side, with a deal already in place to sign David Healy as soon as Leeds exit administration, and the club working on a move to acquire the Aston Villa midfielder Steven Davis. QPR winger Lee Cook is also understood to be another summer target.

There will be significant outgoings as well at Craven Cottage as Sanchez seeks to trim a squad that he currently considers short on top flight quality. He has been boosted by the news that Papa Bouba Diop is willing to stay with the club following the sacking of Chris Coleman, but Fulham are likely to listen to offers for strikers Collins John and Heidar Helguson.
