Alexei Smertin has revealed he turned down the chance of a move to Fulham.

Having completed his move to Dinamo Moscow, Smertin admitted that he had received approaches from a variety of clubs, also including Atletico Madrid.

“I had an offer from Fulham and after Russia’s friendly against Brazil I got an offer from Atletico Madrid,” he confirmed.

“But I have chosen Dinamo as there was only one choice for me – London or Moscow.

“Dinamo, Saturn and Lokomotiv were all interested.”

The former Chelsea man, who was on loan to Charlton when the transfer went through, also took a swipe at The Addicks, saying that they lack ambition.

“It might have been later than I expected but Dinamo’s offer was very interesting. I like the ambition of the Dinamo board.

“I saw a lack of that at Charlton after winning so often at Chelsea.”
