Aston Villa are lining up a January swoop for Fulham central defender Zat Knight.

The England international has dropped out of Chris Coleman’s first team plans at Craven Cottage having been disciplined for his off-field behaviour earlier in the season after breaching a club curfew. The 25 year-old has found it difficult to break back into the team after being fined and Fulham would be open to letting him go in the new year after six years with the club.

The Solihull-born boyhood Villa fan would likely jump at the chance of moving to Villa Park and current manager David O’Leary is believed to be looking to add depth to the heart of his defence after injuries have disrupted Danish international Martin Laursen’s season.
