Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson was left singing a familiar tune after his side were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham at Loftus Road on Saturday.

The Man Utd manager believes it’s time ‘match officials earn their money’ after seeing referee Alan Wiley waved away a penalty when Edwin van der Sar appeared to bring Louis Saha down.

“It’s time match officials earn their money,” he said in reference to the non-penalty. “If they’re not doing their job, they shouldn’t be out there, frankly.

“This is the new dawn in football with professional referees but that’s very questionable. There’s no confidence given to managers that they’re doing their job.

“I am not going to dignify that decision because I don’t want to make the referee’s lunch any better. I don’t know what they are doing, they are not giving managers or anyone in the game confidence that they are actually doing their job.

“We see professional referees making horrendous mistakes every week and nothing is done about it and I am not even going to talk about it, I won’t discuss it whether it was a penalty or whether it was not,” blasted Ferguson.
