Fulham caretaker Chris Coleman castigated ‘a comedy of errors’ at the back after watching his side fall to a 2-0 defeat in the relegation six-pointer at Leeds United last night.

The former Fulham centre half was distinctly unimpressed with the way the Whites let Leeds take the lead with through Australian striker Mark Viduka.

“Our defending for the first goal was a comedy of errors. We discussed it at half-time, and I won’t go into it but it was very poor marking. We’re in a relegation dogfight, and to come to Elland Road where there’s a hostile atmosphere, to go a goal down inside four minutes you are then asking a lot.

“In the second half, within a couple of minutes of the restart, we’re then two down. You can’t defend like that. It looked like we were playing off the cuff, and I don’t know why because it’s not something we’ve been working on in training, but it’s something we will address this week.

We have a massive game with Chelsea, and if we defend like we did against Leeds then they will score a lot more than two. But it’s not just the defenders because we were giving the ball away cheaply and making it easy for Leeds, so we have a few problems to work on before Saturday. There is still work to do to guarantee our safety.”
