Young Fulham star Zat Knight was delighted to help Fulham keep a clean sheet at Leicester City on his league debut on Saturday afternoon.

The 21 year-old tall centre half looked comfortable and confident on his first Premier League outing and put his 6ft 6in frame to good use as the Whites braved a late Leicester onslaught to leave Filbert Street with a point. Leicester City manager Peter Taylor suggested that the defender, signed from Rushall Olympic by Kevin Keegan, could play for England in the future – whilst Fulham boss Jean Tigana has long been a fan, playing the Solihull-born youngster in central midfield with the reserves last season to improve his distribiton.

Knight admitted that Tigana’s faith in him boosted his belief ahead of a first Premiership appearance.

‘”I felt pretty confident because of the encouragement I’ve had from the manager. Funnily enough, despite my height, I was not particularly good in the air when I moved to Fulham four years ago but they have worked hard on me.”
