The agent representing former Bulgarian player of the year Georgi Ivanov has played down reports linking him with a move to Aston Villa, and Fulham have now emerged as favourites to land the striker.
Reports in the Birmingham Post newspaper suggested £5 million-rated Ivanov, nicknamed Gonzo, was the latest target for Villa boss John Gregory, who looks likely to miss out on West Ham striker Frederic Kanoute.
However, Ivanov’s agent Lachezar Tanev insisted he knew nothing of the Villa interest.
The striker looks certain to go to England though. Levski coach Lupko Petrovic left Ivanov out of the club’s pre-season friendlies, with the most likely destination now looking to be Fulham. The deal is expected to go through either this week or next.
