Fulham are considering making a move for Aston Villa midfielder Jack Grealish, according to a West London Sport story this afternoon.

Villa are braced for a summer of big bids for their midfield talisman, especially after news broke of their severe financial predicament following defeat by Fulham in last month’s Championship play-off final. Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has warned of the dire consequences of failing to win promotion to the Premier League and Grealish could be one of the star attractions should there be a fire sale at Villa Park during the close season.

The 22 year-old midfielder, comfortably Villa’s most dangerous performer against Fulham at Wembley, has emerged as a serious transfer target for Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham and a whole host of Premier League sides are set to make a serious play for his signature. Grealish, who has scored fourteen goals in 151 appearances in seven years with his boyhood club, became increasingly influential for Villa once he was switched to a central midfield role by Steve Bruce after overcoming injury in the early part of last season.

Given that Villa will demand in excess of £30m to sanction Grealish’s departure and the rival suitors that the gifted playmaker could choose from, Fulham’s interest will need to matched with serious cash. The club are keen to add to their attacking midfield options this summer and have already been linked with moves for two of the Championship’s other creative talents in Norwich pair James Maddison and Josh Murphy. It remains to be seen whether the Whites will firm up their interest by tabling an offer.
