Brighton and Hove Albion have rejected Fulham’s £4m bid for their central defender Lewis Dunk, according to reports on the south coast this evening.

The Argus newspaper revealed that the Seagulls have rebuffed Fulham’s improved offer for the 23 year-old centre back and are adamant that they will not sell Dunk to a Championship rival. Brighton turned down an opening bid of around £2m for Dunk in June and also rejected a £3m offer earlier this month. Albion are believed to value Dunk, who has made more than 100 appearances for Brighton since captaining the club’s youth team at around £5m, but it remains to be seen whether Kit Symons will now move on to other transfer targets.

Symons has made the strengthening of his defence a key priority for the summer after Fulham conceded 83 goals last season, which was the second worst defensive record in the Championship. Dunk missed Brighton’s friendly at Crawley Town tonight through injury.
