The morning papers seem fairly divided on the latest regarding Manchester City’s interest in Patrick Roberts, which seems to have become of the stories of the silly season so far.

First came the claim from the local press that Fulham had to receive a formal offer for the 18 year-old. Then, the Daily Mirror’s website splashed with the news that a deal worth £8m had been struck for the England under-19 international.

However, the Daily Express says that Fulham will turn down an offer of £8m – holding out for a figure of closer to the £10m originally reported and the prospect of Roberts returning to Craven Cottage on loan. The Guardian’s Danny Taylor, who has good contacts at both clubs, disclosed that his information is that Fulham have rejected a £5m offer from City.

What everyone seems fairly certain of is that Roberts is unlikely to sign the new contract that Fulham have offered him. After that, it’s a case of which account you believe. Watch this space.
