Felix Magath’s search for an experienced goalkeeper could be over as Fulham are close to concluding a deal for Bulgarian international Nikolay Mihaylov, according to reports from Italy.

Mihaylov only joined current club Hellas Verona last summer from FC Twente for around £400,000 but only made one appearance – in Verona’s 4-1 Coppa Italy thrashing by Sampdoria during a disappointing season in Italy. Sky Sport Italy revealed that Mihaylov is expected to sign for Fulham in the next couple of days, although there is still some doubt over whether it will be a permanent transfer or a loan.

It isn’t the first time Fulham have been linked with the 26 year-old goalkeeper. He was expected to join Fulham under Martin Jol last summer as back-up to Maarten Stekelenburg but opted to sign for Verona instead. Should Mihaylov move to London, it will be a second spell in England after he spent three years with Liverpool, without making a first-team appearance.

Mihaylov, who has won 28 caps for Bulgaria, would team-mate with his international team-mate Nikolay Bodurov at Craven Cottage and provide competition for Jesse Joronen, installed as Magath’s number one after the sale of David Stockdale, and Marcus Bettinelli.
