Gillingham have taken Fulham’s Australian winger Ryan Williams on loan in a bid to strengthen their League Two promotion push, according to the Daily Mail.

The teenage winger has become a regular in Kit Symons’ under-21 side since joining Fulham last January from Portsmouth for £300,000. The Australian under-20 international scored a late equaliser for the under-21s in their 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough earlier this month and has been drafted in by Martin Allen to offer some more creativity as the Gills try to earn automatic promotion.

Allen’s side currently sit in second place in the League Two table, a point behind leaders Port Vale, and nine points ahead of fourth-placed Fleetwood in the first of the play-off places. Williams starred alongside his Fulham team-mate Corey Gameiro for the Australian side at the AFC Under-19 Championships this summer and is expected to be part of the Socceroos’ side at this year’s World Under 20 Cup. The 19 year-old is expected to go straight into the Gillingham squad for Saturday’s home game against Dagenham and Redbridge.
