Fair play to you, Dan, I’m suffering burnout with the first team (and work) – getting along to these matches is no mean feat. I remember a cup tie against Bolton a couple of years back that went to extra time (Sanchez experimenting with a 4-2-3-1 I think), and I was devastated: sitting there for another half an hour, freezing, watching bad football!

I was at the match too and was impressed with the performance. It’s interesting to see how the “Hodgson” approach has filtered down to the lower age groups. We looked more organized than I would have expected for a U18 club. Tough break at the end — but the revelation was certainly Marcello Trotta. He was definitely head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch in terms of talent. Especially his awareness of the other players and he showed some pretty deft passing.

So, I’m curious what the deal is with him? Would we have signed him up already to a professional contract? I’m very unfamiliar with what rights the club holds with regard to academy players. Would hate to see him get away without some compensation. Any thoughts?

I had been hoping for some more information on the game.

I didn’t realize it until it was too late that the game was audio broadcasted on Astin Villa’s site. I kept checking last night for results on the match. An hour after I thought the game was over there finally was some info.

It sounds like it was a great match. I know the result wasn’t what we want, but it sounds like the team played very well until the very end.
Based on your entry Trotta sounds like he was exceptional.
